Charlie Collins has sport in his bone marrow. He captained St. Eunan’s to the County Championship in 1972 and captained Letterkenny Rovers through back- to-back Donegal league Premier Division titles in the early 1980s.

When he began working with Donegal Community Radio in 1986, it was to head up their sports coverage throughout Donegal. During this era, Donegal won the all-Ireland u-21 championship. Collins extensive career of coverage of the International Rally began with D.C.R and continued throughout his tenure in Highland Radio.

He was appointed Head of Sports in Highland Radio in 1990, a role he enjoyed up until June, 2013.

Amongst the highlights of sporting interviews throughout his career, Collins has interviewed Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, Terry Venables, Jack Charlton, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Gary Lineker, Gary Mabbutt and of course, Packie Bonner.

He is renowned for his spirited coverage over decades of GAA matches, the highlights of which were the 1992 and 2012 All Ireland finals.

His access and standing within the sporting world has afforded him the opportunity to cover at close range, two Ryder Cups – in the K. Club and Valhalla with the opportunity of interviewing on several occasions, Paul McGinley and other golfing greats.
